School Supply Drive 2017

Members of the Kiwanis Aktion Club currently have two service projects running, and could use your support.

First, a large number of kids in New Mexico cannot afford the supplies needed for success in the classroom, so the Aktion Club is stepping up to help with the shortage by collecting school supplies, which will be distributed to the local school system in Albuquerque, and in Valencia County.

You can drop the school supplies off to Aktion Club members in Adelante programs such as Arts and Animals or Creative Hands in Albuquerque, or at Bridges in Belen. There is also a collection box in the lobby at Adelante’s main office located at 3900 Osuna Road NE, in Albuquerque. The school supply drive runs through August 24, 2017.

Second, the Aktion Club is collecting pull tabs from soda cans in support of the Ronald McDonald House, which provides a “home away from home” that allows families to stay close by their hospitalized child at little or no cost. Collect your tabs in sandwich bags, clean milk jugs, or any container you have available, then drop them off at any of the Adelante collection points mentioned above by September 21, 2017.

The Aktion Club is a service club providing leadership and community-service opportunities for people with disabilities. The club is hosted by Adelante in cooperation with Kiwanis Club of Albuquerque, and is open to all people with disabilities in our community. You do not have to participate in Adelante programs to get involved.

If you or someone you know is interested in joining, contact the club’s advisor, Joel Wigelsworth, at JAWigelsworth@GoAdelante.org or (505) 341-7117.
