Aktion Club members held their annual holiday toy drive in December, proudly brightening the holidays for 139 local children in need.

The Aktion Club, a service club providing leadership and community-involvement activities for people with disabilities, is hosted and sponsored by Adelante in cooperation with Kiwanis Club of Albuquerque.

The initial toy drive brought in 113 toys for Toys for Tots, narrowly exceeding the previous year’s total of 110. Wanting to beat that by a larger number, members voted to release funds from their treasury to purchase more toys.

Equipped with a set amount of cash from the treasury, three Aktion Club members from Adelante’s Creative Hands day program went on a shopping trip, merging community service with achieving shopping and money-management goals. At Adelante, we are always trying to incorporate individuals’ goals wherever we can. Yielding 26 more quality toys, the shopping trip was a success, with the toys going to the Albuquerque Police Department’s Santa Patrol.

The Kiwanis Aktion Club is open to all people with disabilities in our community. You do not have to be an Adelante client to get involved. If you’re interested in joining, contact the club’s advisor, Joel Wigelsworth, at JAWigelsworth@GoAdelante.org or (505) 341-7117.
