Bargain Square opened again on Wednesday, July 8, 2020. The new store is located at 19554 NM-314 S, Belen, New Mexico 87002, between Los Lunas and Belen. The store is open 10 am to 5 pm daily.

Adelante bought the former Sears retail site just north of Belen after looking at multiple options. Adelante moved from the old store in Los Lunas in April and immediately started fixing up the new site.

Why move during a pandemic?

It might seem unusual to move during the stress of COVID-19, but it actually worked well. Bargain Square was closed when other retail spaces were closed by health orders, so it wasn’t as big of an issue as it might have been.

Adelante was looking for a new location before the pandemic hit New Mexico. The lease at the former location was expiring. The move allows Adelante to continue to provide jobs for people with disabilities in Valencia County.

The coronavirus prevented Adelante from hosting a real grand opening. But Adelante did give the first 100 customers a $20 coupon.

What’s New at Bargain Square?

Bargain Square is open, but it’s not business as usual. Bargain Square has to limit the number of shoppers in the store due to current health orders. Shoppers and employees must also wear masks. We are also using social distancing, staying 6 feet apart from other people.

Adelante does not know when all employees can return to work. This is also due to current health orders. Job training sites for people with disabilities were closed in March by the New Mexico Department of Health. That included Bargain Square. Like all retailers, the situation also depends on customers and donors returning to the store.

Much of the thrift store remains the same. Bargain Square is still a great place to find household items, furniture, books, movies, shoes, and clothing for the whole family.

Your support is needed!

Our community has voted Bargain Square as Valencia County’s Best Thrift Store for several years. The community appreciates Bargain Square. And it also provides needed jobs, so Adelante was glad to reopen.

To remain open, the store needs support. The store is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm for shoppers and donors. If you have items to donate, bring them to the back of the new store. To arrange large item pickups, call (505)923-4250. Thank you!
