The garden at the Compadres Senior Center is a serene and inviting place for seniors to relax and enjoy during the day. Plus, horticultural therapy is part of Compadres, a seniors day program offered through Adelante, because it is proven to be one of the most beneficial activities for seniors. Gardening helps with rehabilitation and healing, stimulation of the senses, social engagement and more.

Each year, Compadres celebrates Earth Day by revamping the outdoor space with new plants. Adelante would love your help to make the garden a beautiful and beneficial sanctuary for our seniors this spring and summer.

Please consider donating the following kinds bedding plants or gardening items:

  • Herbs like mint, basil, oregano that can be used for cooking and have smells seniors will enjoy
  • Flowers – particularly brightly colored flowers that bloom throughout the summer
  • Mulch
  • Vegetable bedding plants that grow well in New Mexico like jalapeños, bell peppers and tomatoes
  • Gift Cards (Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, or other garden centers)

To contribute, contact Amy Lavender at Donations@GoAdelante.org.

Thank you for supporting our seniors’ gardening efforts.
