KOATs for Kids has been a holiday tradition across New Mexico for many years, gathering donated coats and distributing them to children in need. This year Adelante and our team at GiveABQ are partnering with Nusenda Credit Union and KOAT Channel 7 news on this project.
Adelante will be handling the the sorting donated coats, as well as receiving and fulfilling requests from local schools and organizations. This year, coats will be collected Monday, November 18 through Friday December 20, 2019.
KOATs for Kids: How you can help
Donate to Support KOATS for Kids
KOATs for Kids is an entirely donation driven program. The number of coats we have to distribute depends on how many we receive from generous people in our community. If you’d like to support this effort and make sure New Mexico’s children have warm coats this winter, buy some new coats and donate them. Any size coat will do, but because we largely distribute through schools, coats for elementary and middle school students are preferred. Adult or larger sizes will work for teens. You can drop them off at any Nusenda Credit Union location. (More information, including locations, is below.)

Request Coats for Children in Need
If you are a school or local organization supporting children in need, you can request coats through KOATs for Kids. Due to outstanding demand we cannot currently take more requests. Our form will be active again as we receive more coats.
When you can make a request please work with your school counselor or principal so we receive just one, coordinated request from each school. If you are in outlying areas one of New Mexico’s small towns, you may want to coordinate a district-wide effort.
Have your sizes and numbers ready? You will use an online request form. Remember, we are dependent on donations to fulfill requests.
Sorting thousands of coats is a huge job and we need teams of people to help with this effort. Volunteers will also be helping to pack requested coats for schools and organizations. The first step is to sign up. We welcome groups and individuals.
Sorting will take place at GiveABQ, 1520 1st Street NW in downtown Albuquerque, located on 1st Street between Mountain and Menaul.
