Saying Goodbye to Belen Bargain Square

Adelante recently announced that the Belen location of our Bargain Square thrift stores will be closing its doors at the end of this month. We have enjoyed providing low-cost clothing, furniture, housewares, and decorative items to our neighbors in and around Belen, but years of struggling sales and continued cuts in funding meant we had to consolidate all of our employees and expenses at Los Lunas Bargain Square to reduce costs and stay in operation. Our goal is to provide employment opportunities for people with disabilities in sustainable way, so the Los Lunas store, with higher sales and more donations, is our best option.

The last day to shop or donate at the Belen Bargain Square will be September 30, 2016.

Bargain Square will still benefit the people of Valencia County through our Los Lunas location. The friendly faces you loved to visit, and the thrill of the hunt for unique items, eagerly await you as we consolidate the inventory and employees into one great shopping experience.

Happily, Adelante is retaining most of the jobs despite the closure, and is looking into ways to repurpose the Belen location so that it may continue to benefit people in the community. Closeout sales will be happening in Belen from mid-September through the end of the month to help us clear our inventory, and to say ‘thank you’ to Belen shoppers who supported Adelante the last 30 years at that site.

The Los Lunas store is being remodeled to make it roomier and nicer for all of the employees, including nearly 40 who have disabilities. People will begin to transfer over to Los Lunas in the coming weeks, and the entire team will be there in early October.

We continue to need your support, so please call (505)923-4250 if you have donations for us to pick up, or stop by and grab hold of a few new treasures. (We have a huge collection of Halloween decorations and costumes, by the way.) Donors who have just a few small items are welcome to drop them off seven days a week at our Los Lunas store, 701 E Main Street, or Monday through Friday at Adelante’s administrative building in Albuquerque, located at 3900 Osuna Road.
