Senior Meals & Transportation

Meals & Fun at Senior Centers

Adelante provides nutritious meals for seniors and people with disabilities through the senior centers in Dona Ana County. Meals are always available for purchase at our senior meal programs. To dine for free, you must be 60 or older and eligible through the state’s Consumer Assessment process. Call (575) 527-9845 or come for a meal to begin. If eligible, your spouse may also get meals, even if they are under 60. People with disabilities, regardless of age, who reside with or accompany eligible individuals, and volunteers under the age of 60 are also eligible.

The senior centers have activities surrounding lunch time, too, including billiards, games, sewing, arts and crafts, and puzzles. Our attending seniors organize the activities. Adelante’s services are offered at the following senior centers: Dona Ana, Radium Springs, Hatch, Anthony, Chaparral, and Mesilla.

Home Delivered Meals

Adelante can deliver meals to seniors 60 years of age or older who are unable to leave their homes due to a disabling condition. The spouse and individuals with disabilities who live in the home with an eligible senior may also receive a delivered meal. Delivered meals also can be created to meet specific nutrition requirements.

Seniors have special nutritional needs. Learn more about what seniors need here: https://medlineplus.gov/nutritionforolderadults.html

If you’re a senior in the Albuquerque area and need food, please visit the Storehouse New Mexico food pantry. In addition, the Benefits Connection Center can help you determine if you are eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps) and other government safety net programs. This service is free for seniors and people with disabilities across New Mexico.

Transportation Services

Adelante offers transportation for people 60 years and older, to and from medical appointments and health care services, to various social services, and some shopping and recreational activities. All senior center sites have the ability to transport seniors to and from lunch.

Per the Area Agencies on Aging, transportation services are limited to eligible individuals who have no other means of transportation or who are unable to use existing transportation.
